Mid-Pacific

Hey! We are now at longitude 131 west, latitude 19 degrees N, 2 days out from Ensenada, Mexico. Ensenada was nice, only went into the town once. It was almost a ghost town with empty restaurants. They must spring to life when the Carnival cruise ships are in. Dan had meetings on the ship for 2 days there. I read, and ate, and slept, fought with the computer, explored the ship, alphabetized the loaner library, and read some more. On Sunday the students, all 586 of them arrived. That night we left...I couldn't see any reason to stay in Ensenada, UNTIL we started feeling these big ocean swells. I had not realized how much the ship would rock, even on a calm day. The little loaner library shelves have had to be straightened several times already.I guess you could say the Pacific Ocean is nauseatingly beautiful. Am hoping that as my semicircular canals acclimate it will become less nauseating. It couldn't be more beautiful.

  2. I'm sick to my stomach just thinking about the rolling seas. So fabulous to see you both at "Dog Beach" in SD. Sorry I was so distracted-hard to watch my ADD dog (is that redundant?)and catch up. I'm so excited for both of you and that the room and food are better than expected-a great bonus to the world travels! Love to you both, SD Cheri

  3. Okay, now I have had a moment to catch up with the journey notes! Sounds like the most brilliant opportunity of a lifetime. I am so glad that you, Mary, are having a time of renewal and can share this with Danny. And I am thrilled that Danny is experiencing from colleagues the times I always called my "Bread Loaf Moments." The world of learning and teaching is so special -- but most especially when you are around those who feel likewise.
On another note, I hope the seasickness subsides as you grwo accustomed to the motion. Is that possible? MISS you guys and Vivi and Tobycat send their love too. MG
